What I loved: Somehow, even though only one character talks, we have a whole story. It is pretty comical to see the things that Hippo comes up with, and delightful when Hippo and Sharko share a needed hug. I love to see positive behaviors modeled, so even though Sharko gets frustrated, he apologizes. These shenanigans can be used to introduce rhyming and alliteration, as the items Hippo pulls out fall in these categories. It's great when funny stories can also be used for teaching.
The illustrations are also super-fun with lots of bright colors and feature clever background details with the goat and penguin who were brought in on the adventure.
What left me wanting more: Kids will love it, but I was a little grossed out by the sneeze in a jar that is full of sloshing green liquid. This is a seriously minor thing.
Final verdict: Hilarity ensues on a fishing trip between two friends in this funny picture book. Recommend for children who are learning about rhymes and alliteration or just those who want a laugh.
