CIRCUS GIRL is a book about Sky, who dreams of being the star of the circus. The book begins when Sky is actually dreaming, and her mother is calling for her to wake up. She is thinking of the colors, smells, and sights of the circus. When she gets up, she goes to school, but she is still dreaming of the circus. On the weekend, Sky performs with her group at the circus.
What I loved: Simple phrasing and the use of all the senses make this a fun and quick read. I really love that Sky loves going to school, as this is always a great model for young readers. The illustrations are full of bright colors and fun ideas that will delight young readers.
What left me wanting more: It is a little bit confusing to go from dreaming to performing in the circus. There are a lot of questions about whether she is still dreaming of this or if she has made her dreams come true or if this just fills her waking thoughts. I feel like it would have been nice to go a little more in depth into who Sky is and what she/her family does.
Final verdict: Overall, this is a delightful and simple picture book for young children who will love the bright colors and simple text.
