JOLLY JINGLY CHRISTMAS is a cute rhyming, lift-the-flap, musical, non-religious celebration of the season. Each of the five full page spreads in this board book feature a rhyme inviting children to lift-the-flap and reveal a toy with accompanying sound (e.g. crunching for the reindeer eating carrots, woosh for a penguin sliding, train sounds for the train). The sounds are light-activated, meaning they will hear them as soon as they lift the flap (on/off switch is on the back cover).

What I loved: Bright colors and full page, large spreads make this loads of fun for little ones, with or without the sounds. The flaps are fairly sturdy with the ends tucked into the book so that they are not easily pulled off. The sounds are lots of fun for little ones with the added peekaboo benefit of the flaps and light activations. The scenes are all perfect for the holidays with presents, animals, and seasonal celebrations. There is also a puppy on each page (sometimes hiding) that toddlers will love to find and point out. My toddler was giggling a lot at the crunching of the carrot and the woosh for the penguin. The door with the jingly bear was also fun, as it invites toddlers to knock at the door before opening to hear the bells on the teddy bear's hat!

The text is also very easy to read, printed in a large and clear font. The rhyming phrases and repeated peekaboo are very appealing to older infants and toddlers, making this a delightful listen and read.

I would add some light warnings that the sounds do need direct and bright light to activate, so we sometimes need to hold it up closer to the light to get them to activate (if not under direct lighting) and the lift-the-flap paper is about cardstock thickness, so could be torn by strong children (though the tucked in edges do add sturdiness to them). The sounds do not have volume controls, but are certainly loud enough to hear without being too loud.

Final verdict: Highly interactive with bright colors and fun sounds, this book is a delightful celebration of the holidays! Toddlers and preschoolers will adore the rhyming phrases, peekaboos of lift-the-flaps, the fun light-activated sounds, and many animals to see within. With easy to read text and delightful pages, this is a great way to celebrate Christmas with young readers.
