However, soon, she finds out there is a problem- an uncle wearing helium-filled pants has floated away. Ada is ready to use science to explain the problem and identify potential solutions. Luckily, science can save the day- with the help of Ada and her friends and family. Ada also takes the opportunity to identify some birds that the uncle sees on his perilous journey.
What I loved: So much about this book is amazing! It's humorous and certainly giggle-worthy. The illustrations are also perfectly suited to the text and add some extra fun to this book. The best part is the depiction of science and the scientific method so perfectly! As a scientist myself, it was fantastic to get to see children excited about science and to teach them so easily about how to employ scientific experiments in their own lives (but making sure they ask before borrowing people's things, of course). Thus, this is a great book for children broadly as they can learn and get excited about science in a really approachable way.
Final verdict: A delightful celebration of STEM with a tenacious main character, ADA TWIST AND THE PERILOUS PANTS is a fantastic read for elementary school aged children who will giggle at the plot while learning how the scientific method can be enjoyable! Highly recommend for chapter book readers who like great images, strong characters, and a funny plot!
