With fun poetry and lovely illustrations, FABULOUS FISHES is a fun introduction to the variety of animals that live in the water. With not only fish, but also sting rays and seahorses, this is a colorful exploration of sealife. So many amazing creatures are shown, and children will enjoy looking at the images while listening to the rhyming text.

What I loved: The illustrations in this book are gorgeous! The fish are easily recognizable for parents and little ones will enjoy the detailed and colorful images throughout. The rhyming text makes it a fun listen for younger readers, and the text per page is relatively limited, making it a quick read. Young readers are sure to enjoy the pages that will turn as quickly as they like.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, it would have been helpful to include the animal name on the page somewhere, so that parents will be able to tell young readers all the fish names. Most are recognizable (clownfish, pufferfish), but some are less well-known and would be helpful to have labeled. There is a key at the end, which is helpful and gives some extra facts too, so this is a very small thing.

Final verdict: A rhyming and delightful adventure, this watery exploration is simple fun for young readers and budding oceanographers. Older infants, toddlers, and preschoolers can all find something to enjoy in this beautifully illustrated picture book.
