ANNE’S FEELINGS features scenes from the iconic ANNE OF GREEN GABLES along with specific feelings, including hopeful, scared, surprised, happy, and excited- and, of course, the depths of despair. Older fans of the character will enjoy revisiting these scenes depicted through lovely embroidery (photographed in the board book). Younger characters will enjoy discussing and looking at the scenes and matched feelings. The colors and fabrics are chosen so perfectly to create beautiful images.

What I loved: The images are amazing, and the scenes are portrayed so well in this book. There are also a variety of feelings to discuss and explore from surprise where Anne’s hair is green to calm and hopeful. Toddlers and adults alike will enjoy looking through the book and (re)connecting with the character of Anne.

What left me wanting more: The scene of Anne being angry shows her raising her slate to hit Gilbert from the scene where he was pulling/seemingly making fun of her hair. While this is an iconic scene from the book, toddlers may be able to get the context from an angry face and not need the raised slate about to hit Gilbert. Considering this is also a common lesson toddlers need to learn (not to hit others when upset), it could spark some discussion about appropriate responses.

Final verdict: This is overall a really fun exploration of feelings ideal for the youngest and newest fans of Anne. Adults will enjoy revisiting the story through the lovely images and scenes. I would recommend for older toddlers who are beginning to identify their own feelings in more complex ways.
