CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG is a classic for a reason- the images are full of fun and the text moves quickly. Toddlers and young children love to giggle along as Emily Elizabeth tells us all about her big, red dog. In this first book, we learn about Clifford- why he’s great, some of his weaknesses, and how much she loves him. With some extra comedy due to his size, this book is a delight.

What I loved: The word-to-image ratio is perfect for toddlers and young children. The pages turn fairly rapidly, and the text size means this could be a great book for children learning to read as well as for parents who read it aloud. The story is sweet and comical, as Clifford chases- and catches- cars and has a hard time with hide-and-seek since he’s larger than the house he hides behind. The images are colorful and correspond to the text perfectly.

What left me wanting more: Nothing!

Final verdict: CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG is sure to remain a classic for generations to come. Toddlers and children will delight in the amusing story and corresponding illustrations. I highly recommend for young ones.
