All creatures need to sleep. In this book, a host of animals—from a baby moose to a baby hedgehog—are tucked into bed with the simple lifting of a flap. Young children will enjoy helping the various animals prepare for sleep before reaching the concluding page which asks whether they would like to be tucked in too.

Though the text and illustration style are well suited for the very youngest of readers, I thought that Scharschmidt could have made better use of the illustrations on the right side of the page. As the flaps are turned, they became blankets to tuck in the various animals, but beforehand, there is simply an empty field of color under a night sky. An alternative might have been that the page could have depicted more of each animal’s environment. In the sequel to this book, Who’s Hungry, Scharschmidt resolves this issue.

This minor critique will not concern toddlers, however, and I would recommend it to any young children, especially before bedtime. An added bonus is the album of lullabies made especially to accompany this story, which can be found online at: http://www.dreamtunesmusic.com/.

Good Points
Bright, Engaging Illustrations.

Fun lift-the-flap book.
