While school elections, dances, bullying and newspapers are WAY overdone in middle grade lit, field trip books are not. This is beyond brilliant, and shows that Barry has either been a chaperon on such a trip or grilled some chaperon mercilessly to get him information. I love Suzana as much as Wyatt does because she "is basically a Navy SEAL disguised as a hot eighth-grade girl". I would LOVE to read more about Wyatt in another book!
As if I needed to be even more excited about this book, it was released the day that the 8th grade at my school took off for OUR D.C. trip. And while I was scanning the National Museum of American History for any of my students who might have been getting into trouble, I saw a pile of this book... and when the crowd cleared, Dave Barry himself was standing there. He was extremely nice and not scared of my fan-girling at all! My students ALL want to read the book now!
