Kids will love the adventures of Slipper, the cat who gets left behind.

First of all, LOST CAT has great read-aloud value. The text is always divided from the illustrations by a wide, white panel. This makes it easy to follow along, or for older children to read on their own. The text is large, but not so big that it takes the focus away from the illustrations, which are adorable, heart-warming, and at time quite amusing.

The pastel on paper illustrations are simply lovely. The realistic colors of the drawings convey a cat's-eye view of the chaos of moving boxes, the fluffiness of slippers, and the unique pair of shoes that the cat meets on her journey. The contrast between close-up, detailed views of Slippers and wide-angle, broad perspectives keeps the pacing of the story interesting. Slippers' expressions, in particular, are my favorite part of this book. She is just so expressive with her wide, bright green eyes!

The story has a happy ending, which I really enjoyed. I wanted Slippers to have a safe and happy home in the end. Slippers' happiness at the end of the book is palpable - a warm and fuzzy feeling that will stick with you and your kids for the rest of the day!
