In the Nick of Time, by J Lee Graham is one of the best books I've read in a very long time. Andy Makepeace, the central character, stumbles upon some magical incense sticks, which allow him--and later his two friends--to travel through time. They journey to Georgia just before the Civil War, and can't get home. The book is packed with excitement, yes. But it's also about friendship, and choices and who we are inside. The book is also funny, historically accurate and full of amazing detail. I recommend this book to not only kids, but to adults as well. It is, as they say, a page turner.
