This book is funny, educational, and I like the way she writes the whole book in letters, notes, newspaper articles, etc. The Geyser Middle School 7th graders have to take the BEE (Basic Education Evaluation) and pass or they have to go back to 5th grade! The principal is on leave and so a teacher steps in, thus leaving a spot open for Florence Waters (some will remember her from the other books) to take over doing a correspondance class. While she is travelling, the students write to her and she writes back giving them assignments, and helping them on more personal issues, basically boys and girls liking eachother. Florence misunderstands and thinks the BEE test is actually bees that will be coming to the school. So she starts teaching the class about them, even sending an actual bee that spells to help them learn about bees and also get ready for the spelling bee coming up. The Geyser school has to contend with the Springfield Middle School, who with the help of there teacher, the evil Polly Nader, won last year. Polly Nader also won the one million dollar prize last year. It's easy to see that something is very off with the Springfielders. There are also little stories within about the standing in principal and his pregnant wife, the hairstylist, so on, but the main point is bee education. This book will teach you how bees communicate with one another, the different kind of bees and there part in the honey making business, and much more. This is a really fun book.
