Utterly Intrigued Arent You? I was.
The Icebound Land by John Flanagan
5 out of 5 stars
The Icebound Land Book Three in the Ranger's Apprentice Series by John Flanagan was perfectly balanced.
Will and Evanlyn are being held as slaves by the defeated Skandians. As Will plots their escape, halt is desperately seeking for a chance to leave Araluen and track his kidnapped apprentice down and bring him home. After finding no alternative, Halt attempts one last idea. Even thought it works, Halt has to pay a high and sad price for this chance to find Will. Horace insists on accompanying Halt on his quest to find and release Will. But Will and Evanlyn haven't been idol either. As Horace fame in Gallica grows, Will and Evanlyn go to great measures to escape the pain of slavery and to return home to Araluen.
There is no better way to describe this book than balanced. The characters equally balance out each other's flaws, strengths, and all together, their lives.
The smart and wise decision of writing Halt's/Horace's and Will's/Evanlyn's story back to back every chapter was brilliant. Each chapter may have been different lengths, but the amount of events and happenings were equal. Which created an easy to read book from cover to cover.
The Icebound Land's complex matters and events were wrapped in simplicity that didn't leave you confused but utterly intrigued.
