This illustrious tale restates the life experiences of a seventh grade boy named Daniel Walker who has every intention of making his town travel team. The game of basketball seems to run in the family seeing that Dannys father, Richie Walker, played in the National Basketball Association or the NBA on the Warriors for a couple of seasons. Back when he lived in Middleboro where Danny now lives he himself was on this specific travel team and led the team all the way to the national championship. Later, the night of tryouts comes, after Danny has been outside every practicing for at least three hours, he thinks he does great but unfortunately in the end he is cut and doesnt make the team. When Danny seems to have given up hope his father decides to make a second team including Danny and all his friends who did not make the team. After a rather successful season they had over overcome many obstacles that had seem to be in the way of their eventual goal which is winning a state championship.
The main theme of this book is change especially for Dannys father and his sense of trust is now stronger as well as his ability to become a great parent. I can relate to this story because I actually played on a seventh grade travel team for Easton. I also felt that present tense of the book is what made it so gratifying to the reader. This Means that every thing that is happening in the story is going on in the world right now. I myself enjoy the game of basketball and basically anything else to do with it that is why I could not put the book down because I had to see how basketball is interpreted through the eyes of someone else. Also to learn from his experiences.
