Colleen Hoover already earned reputation that she knows how to write a good romance story with her novels Slammed and Point of Retreat. My first encounter with her is Hopeless, first book in her new contemporary romance series, about hopeless boy and girl who somehow manage to find love together.
Seventeen-year-old Sky is not the usual heroine. She’s got a reputation of being a slut, is home-schooled and lives with a mother who is against technology. Yes that means no tv, phones, computers etc. Sky at first glance is definitely not someone who I could easily connect or relate to. But very soon she earned my admiration and respect, mostly thanks to how she reacts to slut-shaming directed at her. It’s always good reading about a strong, self-confident character.
Although she had a lot of relationships, Sky is cold and distant toward the boys. They do not faze her. That is, until she meets Dean Holder. When Sky looked at him, she never wanted to stop. And when Holder looked at her…
"There was something so disturbing about the way he looked at me. It was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and somehow flattering all at once."
A list of reasons why Sky should not be attracted to Holder is mile long. He’s got a temper, he’s moody, he’s full of secrets… But still, everything about him feels right. If you liked the instant attraction and intensity of romance between Romeo and Juliet, if you liked the drama of Beautiful Disaster, then Hopeless is going to rock your world.

At first, I was swept by the emotions and romance between Sky and Holder, but as the story developed and secrets from their past started to get revealed, the story kinda went downhill for me. It all seemed so unbelievable, like a plotline of some telenovela. But I think I will be a lonely black sheep in my little corner, since this book is insanely popular and has 4.51 rating on Goodreads with 76.124 reviews.

Hopeless is one of those contemporary romance stories full of drama that will make you tingle with the intensity of emotions. If you don’t mind your book to be crammed with teenage hormones and to be a little bit over the top, I think you are going to enjoy it. Think of it like a cocktail of dramatic flare from Beautiful Disaster and deeply-flawed characters from Pushing the Limits.
