This coloring book features a mixture of pages from actual scenes from the Harry Potter movies to pages dedicated to one creature’s design repeated. The iconic scenes will make readers eager for a Harry Potter marathon, movies or books. However, some of the other designs are somewhat simple and plain. Even so, the range of creatures featured is spectacular, and users will have a fun time remembering the names of each as they color. The concept art at the end of the coloring book are a treat. You can see artist sketches of the creatures and still shots from the movies.

Some of the line work is a little thick in places, but for the most part, it’s used when appropriate for pages with more detail. The pages are on the thinner side, so I wouldn’t recommend water colors, but colored pencils and crayons would do just fine. Creatures with feathers or fur, such as the phoenix or the three-headed dog, are excellent opportunities to try out fun shading. Markers and gel pens can work as well, but there is some bleed through.
