FIRST AND LASTS: THE CHANGING SEASONS is a lyrical and inspirational children’s book that teaches how while it may be the last of something, it’s the first of something else. It addresses things that are done in each season with friends and family which makes it nice to share with a child. The activities are specific to each season, like flannel pajamas for the winter or watching geese fly south. A lot of the things are done outside which encourages children to do more than just look at a screen. It also might serve as a source for ideas of new activities to try.

The illustrations have a bright and artistic feel, like something you’d see in a museum. I love how it focuses on positive things and how it teaches with every ending comes a new beginning. There’s also a cause and effect feel to the story that borders more on the educational side of things. This is an uplifting story and it's obviously the author put her heart into it. It shows with each line.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children who have questions about the seasons or who are missing their summer break. This book will remind them that good things are still to come even though some of their favorite activities are coming to an end. The next season brings new things to do with it for a change of pace.
