in valiant by holly black is a great book, it is about a girl named val who catches her boyfriend cheeting on her. so she takes a train to new york and shaves off all her hair on the way there (i think she was just mad otherwise she probably wouldnt have done it). when she gets to new york, by a stroke of luck she meets two pepole in a cofee shop, named lolli and dave, who invite her to stay with them in the abandond subway station they live in with daves brother luis, who claims to see fairys and work for a troll. val doesnt beeleve in fairys, so lolli takes her to ware luis says the troll lives. but when the troll comes back and lolli and val are still there, val makes a deel to save lolli's life. so now shes making diliverys for the troll, just like luis.but when someone starts to poison the exilled fairys the troll val and luis work for is the main suspect. i really liked this book because its so difrent from holly blacks other series "the spiderwick cronicles" and you will never expect the ending (you should probably be at least 13 to read this book)

Valiant isn't your traditional fairy story. Monsters, love and betrayal; what more could you ask for?
Val Russel is the fairy tale gone wrong. When she comes home to discover her mother and boyfriend together she flees to the big city of New York. She finds the truth about the real world were fairies exist. Will she runaway again? Or face her fears to save the people she loves?
Valiant is a good book when your down in the dumps it gives you a real high! (Quite literally).

I found the idea of the story captivating. Faeries are real, and they
walk among us, hidden by glamour from human eyes. And they aren't
necessarily good faeries--like humans, some are good, and some are bad.
17 year old Val discovers this world when she runs away from home and
lives under the New York subway tunnels. Through unforeseen
circumstances, she ends up indebted to a troll, delivering potions to
faeries. But faeries are being poisoned, and Val ends up risking her
life to solve the mystery and protect her unlikely troll-friend.

It
was a dark and exciting story. It had a modern upbeat to it but i wanted
more, i wanted to know the other characters more(like what was lolli's
story).I found myself drawn into the love story that unfolded between
Val and Ravus, the troll, though it was kind of weird but sweet. Val
finds her inner strength, learns for forgive, and stops running away
from her problems. I love this book, my favorite character Roiben (from
book 1 Tithe) had a little part in the story, showing his new status as
the Unseelie King with my other fav character Kaye by his side Yay.
Great book can't wait to read Ironside

I thought this book was great, because i love these kinds of books. Val found her mother and her boyfriend together, and ran away to New York City. She find Lolli and Dave and they become friends, they take her to the platform that they have been living on. Daves older brother Luis acts as a carrier for these Faeries since he has the gift in which he could see them. Lolli and Val go to find these faeries and get caught steeling by a troll named Ravus. Val promises one month servitude in enchange for freeing Lolli. Val grows to love the troll and will have to face many obstacles.
