TTYL is a good book told completely in Instant Messages. It is definetly a book that everyone can relate too because the girls have problems that are real. You feel like your the one sitting there typing the instant messages. At the same time though the language and situations are pretty mature, so if you don't like those kinds of books then I reccomend that you DONT'T read this book.

Title: TTYL Author: Lauren Myracle Publisher: Amulet Number Of Pages: 229
Summary from back of book: Told entirely in instant messages, this smart, funny novel is about humor, hangovers, and heartaches of high school, and the friendships that get you through it all. On the first day of tenth grade, best friends Maddie (madmaddie) Angela (SnowAngel), and Zoe (zoegirl) vow not to let school stupidness get them down... or split them apart. But as the weeks pass and the instant messages accumulate, it's clear that tenth grade will be a roller coaster ride of boy temptation, math torture, donut emergencies, and Queen Bee encounters. Then a jerky boy sends peppy Angela into the dumps, tough Maddie makes a mistake that has the whole school talking, and good girl Zoe gets in over her head with a flirty teacher. Will the winsome threesome make it through the year?
Review: When I got this book I thought that a book in instant messenger sounded interesting. I finished the book a few hours later and thought about it and I like all three characters a lot. Lauren Myracle did an excellent job on this book and I will pick up the other books in the series soon.

I enjoy books that use instant messaging and emails to tell the story (ever since reading Meg Cabot's Boy series that uses this method, I've looked for books that include things like this. Even if it is just ever so often sprinkled throughout the prose, I enjoy it). So, I really enjoyed the format of TTYL, and the chatspeak didn't bother me either. It was all very understated and not an in-your-face, over-the-top type of chatspeak.
While there wasn't a whole lot of plot, I still enjoyed it. I like that a lot of books anymore are going with the barely there plot. It works for me.
I also liked the characters of Angela and Zoe. IMing doesn't provide a very good avenue for character development, but I think the characters were well written and developed as far as could be through IMing.
If you hadn't noticed, there is one third of the trio missing from my well liked characters list. That is because I feel nothing but disgust for the character of Maddie. I disliked her from beginning to end. There was nothing about her to like. She was a selfish beeyotch to be frank. I felt like skipping her IM conversations but knew that then I'd miss out on the other two characters so I didn't skip. I don't know if this was intentional for the author to make her the hated character in the book but she was.
Unfortunately, Maddie's character was so cringeworthy that I can't imagine reading the sequels if she is in them. It would be entirely masochistic so I think I'll have to pass.

TTYL has always been one of my absolute favorite summer books. I promised myself that I would reread it before I posted it as a blog. So I did. I reread it today. I read it today, because today was the third to last day of school. Tomorrow we are going to a waterpark as our end of the year field trip and on Friday we will spend the day sitting around, signing yearbooks, and planning our summer as we flit from class to class.
TTYL takes place in the sophomore year of Angela (SnowAngel), Zoe (zoegirl), and Maddie (mad maddie)'s. The entire book is written in IM, which makes it that much more fun and easy to read. Seriously, if you get into it, you'd find yourself falling in love with the characters and realizing that there's some of them in all of us. Zoe, the shy brainiac, keeps the other two from killing each other and is so sweet nobody would expect that she has an 'affair' with a teacher. Angela is, well, boy-crazy, but we all can be a little bit, right? She falls for Rob, her Spanish partner. For a few weeks, Rob and Angela are perfect together. They go to parties together, have special dates, and even Zoe and Maddie are getting annoyed by all the talk that has been focused on Rob during their conversations. Then evil Tonnie begins to butt in and Angela can't accept that Rob is giving her a lot of attention. She thinks it's all Tonnie's fault, even when.... wait, I can't tell you about that. Can I? Anywayz, on to Maddie, Maddie has tried so hard to keep the 'winsome threesome' together until all of a sudden her arch-enemy, Jana, becomes her best 'friend'. She's skipping things with Zoe and Angela to hang out with her and she doesn't realize it.
Then one night, Maddie completely ditches Zoe and Angel, and she goes to a party with Jana. She looses it and does some regretable things. With a 10th grade year of seductive teachers, bad boys, and drama-loving queen bees, who wouldn't be in trouble? The real question is, will the 'winsome threesome' make it back together?

Although this book is AWESOME, I'm not going to give it a five becuase it's more of a simple read...nothing really "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" or "Sarah Dessen" deep, but still, if you're looking for a good laugh or an actual "real life" perpective...becuase Lauren Myracle writes in a way that's very believable...you should read this book (: I give it two thumbs up!

Introducing the three friends:
Angela is the hyper overdramatic one.
Maddie is the crazy and incredibly alive one.
And Zoe is the extremely sensible one.
Welcome to their life!
Told entirely in IM messages this novel is incredibly funny. The characters feel real and you will be able to sympathise with them. All teen girls should read this book!

To start this off, you can probably guess that this is no ordinary book as it is written completely in IMs.
And yet, Myracle manages to tell a complete and well-rounded story of three sophomores in high school, Angela, Zoe and Maddie.
The characters are well-developed and their personalities clear.
In this novel, the three are going to face their toughest problems yet. Zoe, generally a good girl, is dangerously attracted to her teacher, while Angela's boy craziness persists in hurting her and Maddie's tough exterior hides an uncertain inner self.
This novel is engaging and fun and I'd reccommend all teen girls to read it as it will certainly be a fun ride.
