First lets get things straight I did not like The Devil's Arithmetic by
Jane Yolen. The book just didn't have any meaning to it. Well, I don't
know maybe it's because I'm only 13 and historical fiction doesn't
really catch my attention well.
The Devil's Arithmetic is about a Jewish girl,
Hannah, that didn't really understand her religion. She traveled to the
past where Jews were being badly mistreated in the Holocaust. Hannah
got to experience the life that the Jews had in the past and realized
what went on. Through this she learns the true meaning of what it means
to be Jewish.
I did not enjoy this novel because it was somewhat confusing.
The book continued to "flip-flop" from present to past or past to
present. The Devil's Arithmetic was too dreary, it didn't have enough excitement. I give this book a rating of 2 stars out of 5.
