'We Are the Perfect Girl' by Ariel Kaplan is a Cyrano De Bergerac style story. There are a host of themes at work in the novel, from friendship and family, to beauty and longing. Aphra, the main character, is a nice and likable character. Yet, she is not perfect, hence why she has to work with best friend, Bethany, to capture the heart of love interest Greg. The girls work together, doing their utmost to keep what started as a mistake going, and this spirals into Bethany going on dates with Greg while Aphra is the one who knows just what to say and how to say it to keep the dates going.

There have been plenty of stories like this one, in book and film form. 'We Are the Perfect Girl' does a nice job of showing how two girls who each have their own “pluses” still sometimes find the need to work together. But the problem is that, when the love interest finds out, what will happen?

For any girl or guy who has felt as though being someone else might help with the cause of winning the heart of a crush, this book is a worthwhile look into the dynamics that can come from working together. Sometimes, people may just find that they were enough all along.
