When Selah's proposal to her childhood crush is rejected, she is sent away on a boat to meet possible suitors. Her stepmother implies that she better come home with a husband or don't come back at all. With her father's health declining every day, Selah knows she must find a husband fast so she can return to save him.

Selah's journey starts in England where she meets her first suitor, but it's her guard she's attracted to: Bear. However, Bear has his own secrets that break Selah's heart when they come to light. Next, she's taken to Lysefjord, Norge. Here, we meet Torden who is strong and honest. As the days pass, Selah finds herself growing closer to him, but is afraid to be hurt again. However, something is stirring with Lang and his crew and expose secrets that will change everything.

Rather than a retelling, THE BEHOLDER weaves together all kinds of different myths and brings us more than a simple romance story. I like how no matter the beautiful places she sees, she doesn't forget her father back home. Instead, it makes her stronger and more resilient. She is a little naive, but I love watching her grow. I'm excited for the next one to see how everything plays out!

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of mythology, fairytales, lies, betrayal, romance, and taking a peek into different ways of life.
