I really like Pillage. It started out kind of iffy and I could put the book down without any real drive to pick it up again. So when I reached page 62 I basically forced myself to read it because I didn't want to take forever to finish it. Once I hit around page 100, it significantly improved. I know, that's a lot of time to invest in a book before it actually captures you but it's worth it.

I was constantly waiting for a dragon to appear but it was quite the surprise when Beck found a certain something. Skye did very well with interweaving Beck's ability (of which I will not speak) and the dragons together. Beck's family history was also very interesting, but I will admit, it was obvious from an early time in the book that he was some type of ancestor to a family I will not name.

There was quite the turn of events within the household. I never would have guessed that things would've happened the way they did. On the other hand though, some things were almost painfully obvious. It wasn't boring but, for me, this just made me lack the desire to read and not put the book down.

It wasn't until the end, that I finally had that "oh my gosh" feeling. And finally didn't want to stop reading. It wasn't just the excitement that made that happen for me; I equally wanted to finish because I was getting worried that (with less than 20 pages left) things weren't going to wrap up very satisfyingly. But they did of course.

The ending was great and I was more than curious to see how Skye would continue the series. But honestly, Pillage is one of those books that leave you more curious than dying with excitement. For example, I finished Insurgent last year and was so excited tears just came to my eyes. (I don't know why that happens, it just does. So don't judge.) Pillage wasn't like that though. I wanted to know how the plot continued. This is probably one of the few books/series I read for the plot and not the characters.

It wasn't that the characters were bad or boring; they just weren't the driving force behind the book. If that makes sense. See, Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan is a series I love mostly for the characters (the plot is also great but I am so in love with the characters). But Pillage is more a plot-driven book. And forgive me, but I can't think of another book I've that's like that. I'm sure there is but I can't think of one right now.

All in all, Pillage was great. Read it. If you have read it, tell me what you think! If you haven't, then still tell me what you think!
