"Tex" is the story of two teenage brothers, Mason and Tex, who are pretty much on their own-- their mother is dead and their father is on the road a lot. The two brothers couldn't be more different: Mason is a serious, studious athlete who can't wait to move up in the world, while Tex is a daredevil kid intent on having fun. The book focuses on the brothers' relationship, as well as their relationship with their dad.
Though it's not as well-known as Hinton's "The Outsiders," Tex is just as well-written, the dialogue is just as real, and the characters just as unforgettable. It does, however, lack the theme/ message present in "The Outsiders." A great book for reluctant readers.
