This second entry was good, well technically fifth. I am really glad that the story picked up right after the events of Glass Kingdom. Lynn dives right into the effects of Cole's take over and what that means as Helena, Dell, Edmund, and the others left for safety. The constant threat of Stev's health and Quinn missing also fed into the intense situation. I'm so glad that Bela and Gaule were visited again. While I know this is a story about Madra, it was really interesting to see the after effects of Gaule and what the war had done to them. This is what is so good about interacting different story lines. It's a subtle way to show what the consequences of their previous actions. I really liked the way the story went though. All of the twists were interesting and the book moved very fast. This is another one that I just flew through, like all of its predecessors. The tone was the same, a little darker, as threats hung over the characters and the decisions they needed to make. I loved the ending for multiple reasons but I thought it was cleverly done.
These characters. I absolutely adore these characters. A dual point of view is offered again in this story and I'm so glad it is. This is definitely a story that needed both sides. Len is such a fierce character and I love her loyalty to her country. It was tough to see her turn a little hard but she never really lost herself. All of her pain was felt through the pages but I also liked how she was determined to go to whatever ends to protect her people and family. Dell is just everything. I loved his character and how no matter what he stands by Len's side. They both grew a lot in this book into the people I know they want to be and in the end they stand by each other. I'm glad that we were able to have more Etta and Alex... especially after the third book. They definitely are adorable and I love them so much. What I loved though is how Tyson called Etta's behavior out in the third book. I WAS DYING! But these are definitely fantastic leaders and their lands are definitely in good hands with them.
Overall, Glass Princess by M. Lynn was another fantastic addition to this series. It was a great way to tie up the retelling portion of the Cinderella story. The pacing was fantastic and I appreciated all of the twists that I didn't see coming. Each character had great development and I loved the path Len and Dell were on. If you enjoyed this series thus far, I would highly recommend continuing with this book. These retellings are definitely becoming one of my favorites
