Bianca wants to escape.

She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.

Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him.

"I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would."

But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.

The first chapter starts off with Bianca packing up a bag and planning to run away. Well, not so much run away ... but get away for a while to prove a point to her parents - she really doesn't want to attend Evernight. She's haunted by a dream that she has and that makes her literally start running from the school wants she sneaks out. During her run, she notices the figure of a man that starts running after her. Eventually, she is tackled and you are introduced to Lucas - who thought she was running from someone. They have a nice conversation and return back to school. From then until she meets him again, Bianca is pretty much obsessed with seeing Lucas again. She's the shy, quiet type that doesn't seem to know how to make friends, which makes her dependence on Lucas that much stronger. Bianca does eventually meet and make friends which includes Balthazar, who shows interest in Bianca. Bianca and Lucas eventually confess their feelings to one another, and then get in a fight on their first date away from Evernight. This leads into Balthazar taking Bianca to the Autumn Ball - where, for the first time, she feels like a part of the school. This leads into her thinking about Lucas and his unwillingness to fit it, which becomes too much for her and she asks to go outside with Balthazar. There, she tells him about her attraction to Lucas and Balthazar tells her they will remain friends. Enter Lucas, along with a twist that pretty much turns everything upside down for the reader. From here, I can't tell you much without some spoilers. However, I will say that you learn that Bianca fits more into the school than she admits, and her relationship with Lucas gets a lot more complicated as you continue to read on. Lucas also has a secret that is revealed later on that divides them even more. Well, for a little bit, anyways. ;)

I must say, I started reading this book with little hope because I wasn't all that impressed with the cover. Sure it's shiny and colorful, which is what attracted me to it, but after reading the book ... I honestly feel as though a cover like the one on Fallen might actually fit better. The prologue to the story doesn't give you a good start for the story, however it is an excerpt that is further along into the story - so it keeps you interested and wanting to read more. Your reading the story from Bianca's point of view, which is limited in some ways, but it's elaborate enough to let you know pretty much everything that is going on. The twist around chapter eight or so lets you know that Bianca knew something that wasn't told until then, but it did have that "OMG"-factor that made it worth it. The characters ... I loved them. They weren't too over-the-top, nor were they too vague. The only flaw I found was the whole neediness Bianca had for Lucas through about half of the book, but it did dwindle through the rest ... so, I'm chalking that one up to jitters of a new school. I also have a fond place in my heart for Balthazar, who is very mature and dependable throughout the whole book. The plot was decent and sets the series up well. The ending was very heart-warming and, again, set up for the next book. I don't think I can do this book justice with this review. I honestly can't believe that it's been out since 2008 and I have just now heard about it!

Evernight was an interesting and intriguing novel.
I liked the plot and the twist and surprises that were in the story.
I really liked Lucas. He was brave and stood up to the bullies. Vic was hilarious and Bianca was surprising.
Looking forward to read where the rest of the series is headed!

Bianca wants to escape. Doesn't this seem like a great and mysterious line? Well, that's what made me buy the book (which was an awesome idea) Evernight is the first book in the Evernight series, which is a vampire series by Claudia Gray.

In the first chapters, you have NO idea that Evernight is a school for vampires, since there is not one mention or any signs that there are vampires. Now, I thought either I had misread the summary on Goodreads or that it was just going to put up sometimes. It was the latter, obviously.

I felt like the plot was just magnificent! I loved the idea of vampires at a school (of course, since I already love the the Vampire Academy series). And when we knew that Lucas was a *spoiler* Vampire Hunter *okay, the little spoiler is done!* I was kind of glad, since it added so much more spike to the book and made me interested even more in the rest of the series.

The characters weren't that much developed and mature, but, of course, it is only the first book in the series, but I expect them to mature and develop more and more in each books. I really thought Lucas was cute, especially in the beginning when he thought Bianca was being chased, and he chased her and pushed her (or took cover as he said) to the ground. I laughed at that part, and that made me like the book even more since the beginning was fun.

The writing was easy to read and fun, as well as fast-paced; you couldn't get bored with the book, it was pretty good overall!

The cover is sooooo pretty, and it fits perfectly on my pretty shelf! I can't wait to get the other books of the series to had them to my shelf :D

Awesome book; can't wait to read Stargazer (sequel to Evernight)!!!!

This story makes your heart reach out to a couple from two different worlds. Lucas hates vampires with all his being and spying on them in evernight academy isn't a big thrill for him.
Bianca isn't too thrilled starting over in a new school far from her friends and wants to run away from her parents who are just beginning as teachers in evernight. When these two meet it seems like this school won't be so horrible after all. It's too late to turn back after their encounter in the woods because these two can't deny what they feel. But when the realize the truth behind the lies in their lives can they still be together? This book keeps you surprised with each page turn and leaves you waiting for more.I love the series and I'm ecstatic to have the final book coming out this March!

Evernight is a romantic novel that really captivates you. It is a must read for ages 13+ (although I'm only 11 and I read this). Evernight is a story for Twilight fans it includes drama between a vampire and a vampire HUNTER!!! Claudia Gray makes you wanting more and more. Lovely Biancia (vampire) and dreamy Lucas (vampire hunter) fall in love and where does that lead them? You're gonna have to read Evernight just to find out what happens!

Evernight was a disappointing novel. I ordered the book for my kindle and started reading right away, it started off slow and dull and didnt stand out to me. Bianca was a typical book girl, hated her life, thought she wasnt pretty, blah blah blah. She moves into an exclusive Prep school where everyone is rich and gorgeous, and she doenst fit in. The books goes on like this until she falls for the schools bad boy who is rebellious and hot. About 12 chapter into the book she suddenly is sucking her boyfriends blood and you find out shes a vampire? as if the book weren't disappointing  enough. After this fact came out i instantly lost interest in the book., though i finished it. There are way to many vampire books out there for any of them to be original after a while and this happen to be one of the lesser vampire books. The series now has two or three books but im not rushing out to get them just yet. You could read the book yourself but if you are above the age or 12 the concept is overplayed and generic.

"I knew he would protect me no matter what ..."

Bianca

This is a vampire story, a love story.
I totally loved it!!! It was very good written, very relaxed and easy to read. It made me reserach for Klimt and the books it metions and I really like that.
The best part, where... well you´ll have to read it to know, but it was totally surprising and amazing. Bianca is a really nice character and Lucas, well, he is just great.
You should totally read this book!!

Evernight is a high-class boarding school.  But there's something different about Evernight.  And Bianca isn't sure she likes it. 16-year-old Bianca is caught somewhere between the people who fit in and the people who don't.  Lucas is her first friend at Evernight. He falls into the "don't fit in" catergory and seems to like it that way.  But both Bianca and Lucas have dark secrets their hiding.  What happens when the truth is revealed?

Evernight was okay.  From the very beginning of the book, I know the writing could've been better, but I kept reading anyways.  It does seem to get a little better towards the end of the book.  I didn't really like Evernight, but it was definitely worth reading because Stargazer was a million times better.  Evernight requires a slightly more mature reader than Twilight.  I'm using Twilight as a comparison because I know so many people have read it, not because it's anything like Evernight.  Someone who's read  Blue Bloods would probably like Evernight.  Ages 13+.

Evernight wasn't really what I expected. I felt like the author was trying to be clever and tricky, but she didn't really succeed. And the parts that I didn't figure out were disappointing... I felt misled.
However, the world of Evernight was interesting. It was a new take on vampires that wasn't really my favorite but I could see others liking it.

Scores out of 10:

Originality: 8
Romance: 6
Obsession-worthy: 5
