Gilbert the Goblin infiltrates Santa’s workshop to prove that goblins are better workers than elves in the side-splitting latest installment in The Worst! picture book series, where even the strangest of creatures can become the best of friends.

Everyone knows that elves have a reputation of being the hardest workers around—especially when it comes to the holiday season—but as far as Gilbert the Goblin is concerned that’s nothing but ho-ho-hogwash. A goblin’s to-do list is just as long as any elf’s; they just don’t feel the need to sing songs about it.

To prove he can outperform any reindeer-watching, wrapper-paper-wielding, toy-tinkering elf, Gilbert puts on his merriest disguise to infiltrate Santa’s workshop. But can one lone goblin do the work of a whole team of elves?

Gilbert the Goblin is out to prove that elves are the worst and goblins are the harder workers. According to the little goblin, being better than elves is easily done in three steps and even though toys are gross, he's happy to demonstrate. However, Gilbert realizes very quickly that an elf's job isn't as easy as it looks. As he tries to surpass them, he understands why elves work so well and it's because they rely on each other.

ELVES ARE THE WORST is another silly addition to this popular children's book series that captures the Christmas spirit. The author teaches that things are sometimes more difficult when you try to do them on your own and teamwork is the key. I love how Gilbert learns a valuable lesson and how it shows that one is not better than another. The illustrations are vibrant with bold colors and adorable creatures and I love the Christmas theme.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children aged four and up who enjoy stories with monsters and humor. It would make a great Christmas present that will bring a smile to their face.
