Alaska. Paranormal. University. Read the sensational teen paranormal romance featured in PEOPLE Magazine and lauded by Kirkus Reviews! Hailey Hartley has just enrolled in the world's premier supernatural university. It's a school she's never heard of, located in a town called The Middle of Nowhere, and run by a creature that's not supposed to exist. But at least she got a scholarship... Hailey's dreams have always been, well...vivid. As in monsters from her nightmares follow her into her waking life vivid. When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year-old beast is an equally terrifying creature who has fallen "madly" in love with her. Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety--a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive her otherworldly classes, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn't decide to kill her himself.

Let's dig into EERIE, a YA Paranormal/Supernatural Romance novel. It is centered around a girl named Hailey, whose sister has been found brutally murdered. But that isn't all that's strange about her. She gets dreams at night, and monster hunts her by day. In the beginning, the book has captured my attention and I follow along its plot until I reach the end. And it isn't as much as a roller coaster as I thought it would be.

The perspective of the novel is told from third person. The book flips from narrator to narrator, and each one of them provides an unique look of the book's world. Hailey is the outsider, the one who has never really known the world of the supernatural/paranormal and provides the audience surrogate. Asher is an outworldly Envoy, whose motives are clear but actions are not. Finn, a former friend of Hailey's, is pulled by multiple strings, and his path is so muddled by chances, fate, and opportunity but lit up by love. Out of all these heads and perspectives, I prefer Finn the most, who is very complex but also the most human.

The story starts with a mystery and continues with the supernatural. Hailey herself is hunted by an immoral, immortal monster devoid of feelings but desperate enough to kill. The concept, the world building, the setting the book has is intriguing, and I would love the author to dive much deeper into the world. There's so many questions I have in my mind, and I'm unfortunately unable to gather any answers. But the author does a great job of diving into the smaller but also endearing details of the story.

There's a love triangle in this book. Of course, I have favorites (who doesn't?) and I have already told you who they are (Team Finn). Asher is an Envoy, who is said to be incapable of feeling anything. But he feels something for Hailey. Though Asher and Hailey's relationship remains to be a huge part of the book, I find Finn and Hailey much more fascinating thanks to its flawed, imperfect nature. Besides, the relationship of Fin and Hailey is much more equal when you compared to Asher and Hailey.

The plot largely centers around Hailey. For the exposition, it unfolds steadily as you go through the novel, and everything that the story has built up goes crazy in the climax. I freely admit that the ending is chaotic. Nothing is certain, and the book ends at a sudden, too sudden note. I'm left frantically flipping the pages for the answers once again.

Overall, EERIE is an unique novel about dreams, monsters, and feelings. Developed on a strange, almost dream-like world, EERIE is for those who enjoy romance with a dash of the forbidden.

if you look through my books here in goodreads, the paranormal genre does not belong here. but this book drew me in as i progress in the story.

i've been hearing about EERIE for awhile now and seeing a consistent very good rating, it definitely made me curious.

I have to admit I was captured with Hailey. she's a very intriguing heroine and courageous too. but she is not a favorite as the story progresses. the other thing that captured me is the world. it's quite original. and i like the idea that the author still favored religion as the reason why everything exists. we never see this in paranormal so that is a plus for me.

speaking of the world created, it left me so curious.the things that could be discovered in this world is interesting, but it was set aside for the romance aspect of the book.

I see this book more as romance than anything. the way the love triangle was created was so good, but it left me confused. I truly thought that it wasn't an even playing field. Maybe it was because I favored one than the other, that's why it wasn't satisfying for me.

i have to commend the friendship element in the book. I love that it was progressing to something better and it is definitely true friendship. I love the differences and the likeness of Hailey and Giselle. they really really well.

if anything, with the ending of the book, it just left me more unanswered questions. which is a good thing and a bad thing. Good, because it makes the reader want more of the story and looking forward to the next book. Bad, because it wasn't satisfying...

in general, i like the romance and the created world. but the adventure for me was lacking. I think it focused too much on the romance but that romance was crucial to the story though.

Book 2 promises to just as good 8D with several new surprises ;)
Good Points
I absolute LOVED the book and couldn't put it down, It starts out rather sweet with Hailey and her big sister Holly helping out and step dancing at their Uncle Pix's Irish pub. Hailey has typical school issues related to a family tragedy with secrets;) Then Holly disappears & is found "shredded" , The book takes a decidedly darker turn with Hailey deciding to go to Bear Towne University, the premier school of ParaScience. The book reads like a young adult Harry Potter but better (IMHO). The secondary characters are AWESOME. A poltergeist that does hair and a Banshee with issues . The characters are complex & you never know who to root for. I couldn't decide who to root for Asher, an Envoy with heart or Fin who just can't make his mind up. I can't wait for book 2 which promises more

Love paranormal reads? How about ones that will keep you awake and at the edge of your seat?

This book is all of that and more.

Being swept inside the mind of a literary character is a great feeling. Keeping the reader inside is an even bigger accomplishment.

Hailey is an amazing and typical teenager. Her parents died in a fire when she was very young and she now lives with her uncle and older sister, Holly.

When Holly is kidnapped and determined dead, Hailey begins to seriously question her life and all those around her.

Going to college in Alaska, studying paranormal science, Hailey learns there is way more going on than what she has been dreaming for years.

There is a good guy, bad guy and emotions everywhere!!!!! Seriously, that's what keeps you reading, the constant fluctuations of emotions are what keeps your adrenaline going and your NEED to finish the book.

My sister is rooting for the good guy and I am definitely pulling towards the bad guy... he gives a whole new meaning to the term evil!
Good Points
This is edge of your seat gripping!

Wow it has been a long time since I have read a book with such a unique world. Bear Towne University has a lot of fun little quirks and I think we are only at the beginning of it. The book starts dark with Hailey's sister's murder and a lot of background about her home life. The book really comes to life once she moves to Alaska and Bear Towne University. Yeti spray and ghost traps that don't work. All the while Hailey is trying to make friends with class mates who want nothing to do with her. Two guys who both want her and don't want her depending on the time and fighting off murder attacks. This book is full of action and keeps moving. I loved this book and the second book cannot come out soon enough.
Good Points
Gets you going from the beginning of the book until the end.

Is Eerie 2 coming out soon? I want it NOW! :-D
Good Points
A cross between Harry Potter and Twilight. That's what I thought when I started this book. What a ride! I can't WAIT for the next installment. I found this author when I lost a Bouncy Box giveaway on Amazon and boy, am I glad I found her. I emailed her and told her how much I loved just the thought of reading this, and a few days and a few emails later, she let me know she had a copy for me! WOOHOO! I can't say enough good things about this book. It's YA, paranormal and amazingly well written. What an imagination to be able to invent this complicated world that sucks me in like this one did. Did I mention I'm a fan now? Hurry up and release the next one, please!

Eerie is one of those books that you get lost in. You forget about reality and become part of the book. The only other author that has ever been able to do that to me is Stephen King. And that is saying a lot! It is an award-winning novel, compared to Harry Potter and featured in People magazine that will keep you wanting more!

You will want to be late for work, you will stay up until 4 a.m. to finish it, you will scream when it is finished because you will not want it to be over! You will laugh, you will cry, you will love, you will hate, you will want to throw the book across the room and then run and get it real quick so that you can see what happens next LOL. This book draws you into the middle of nowhere and the mystery and heartbreak and angst of the characters. It is so impeccably written that you feel every emotion and see every site that the characters see. That's not the right way to say it. You don't see it and feel it, you experience it with them! Those of us that have experienced this book are constantly on edge waiting on book two. This is the best book I have read in years and I am anxiously anticipating book 2 comma along with many many many others! You will not regret this purchase! I guarantee it! Just remember, this is not just a book, This truly is an experience!
Good Points
Eerie has something to offer for everyone! If you are a romance lover, it has it. If you are a paranormal lover, it has it. If you are a suspense lover, it has it. If you are a mystery lover, it has it. If you are a humor lover, it has it. Any genre of book that you like, including historically accurate, it is in this book! There is absolutely nothing not to like about this book! And it is not just for young adult! This book is for all ages!

I found Eerie by chance, or maybe fate, either way, I LOVED this book. C.M. McCoy captured the ambiance of her entwined worlds in a unique way. Think Harry Potter, Twilight, The Beauty and The Beast, mix well - then toss them in a cauldron while they percolate into one sensational tip-tapping brew of dark drama, romance, and paranormal occurrences. While I see elements of the aforementioned books, C.M. McCoy’s characters and worlds are hers alone.

Eerie introduces us to sisters, Hailey and Holly, who wait tables and tap-dance at their uncle’s pub. Their parents died when they were young, and ever since Hailey’s had vivid dreams of Envoys and of Asher trapped in the Aether.

Because of her past tragedy and her dream-monsters, Hailey, a high school senior feels more than the normal teen pressures of boys, prom, graduation, and college. But she manages, until the evening Holly takes out the trash and doesn’t come back. Hailey runs out to the dumpster calling for her sister, finally finding Holly’s shoe, with her severed foot still inside.

In her search for answers, Hailey enrolls in a paranormal university in Alaska where she studies the supernatural. Hailey must survive her weird, unique classes, and comes to terms with things like her sneakers running away from her.

She must decide who to trust. Can her dream-monster, Asher who controls the school, save her from the other immortals? Is gorgeous womanizer Fin a friend or foe? What about her roommate from Hell, the banshee, Gisele?

With an unexpected ending, Eerie will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. As for me, I’m eagerly awaiting the second book in this series.

Eerie sits on my bookshelf with the few select books I’ve re-read. The first time I raced through to the end, flipping the pages in excitement and trying to guess what was coming. My second read was months later and mostly to revisit the weird and amazing characters I already missed.

Good Points
Eerie is a spellbinding, well-crafted read. I was on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
