Glide through the ocean with a young child in her cozy little submarine. See how marine animals brush their teeth, put on pajamas (by shifting colors to better blend in), and tuck themselves into sponge beds. Dive between towers of slumbering whales and see bioluminescent creatures paint galaxies in the abyss, then make a wish upon a sea star and let the Dream Submarine whisk you away. Author Charlotte Gunnufson gently guides readers to sleep as she introduces them to a host of mesmerizing sea creatures, while Cleonique Hilsaca’s colorful illustrations transform underwater environs into an imaginative dreamscape. Back matter features a map of the Dream Submarine’s journey, a deeper dive into the ocean’s zones and animals, and resources for further exploration.

As a little girl sleeps, she dreams of the ocean and the creatures that inhabit in. In a submarine, the reader is taken on an adventure with her through the watery depths to discover the wildlife that thrives in these conditions. She discovers so many different things that it may inspire some children to look into the path of becoming a marine biologist.

DREAM SUBMARINE is a story about dreams, adventure and it introduces children to different aquatic animals that lurk under the surface. The illustrations are composed of bold colors and dark lines to make them pop off the page. In the back of the book, we see the voyage the girl's submarine takes, more about the animals we see on our path, and more information about the different ocean zones.

Final Verdict: Overall, this is a great introduction to the ocean and what you may expect to see depending on how deep you dive. I would recommend it to children aged four and up who love animals, adventure and the water.

Dream Submarine takes you on a journey through the ocean as animals get ready for bed with you.

What I like: The colors in this book instantly grab your attention and are great for a younger audience. Children will love watching these animals get ready for bed with similar routines, such as brushing their teeth and getting tucked in. As you read along, this book makes you feel that you are on the submarine by taking you diving, resurfacing, rocking with the waves, and more.

I love that this book takes you on this journey on a submarine with this kid and her imagination. This is a great way to show the extent of a child's imagination and encourage children to use their imagination to tell stories.

What I wanted more of: This is a bedtime story but there are some parts where the colors of text are not contrasted with the background, therefore making it hard to read.

Final Verdict: Dream Submarine is a fascinating, quick, and fun story to read to children as part of a bedtime routine. It'll have them drifting off to sleep in no time and you'll end up finishing the story because of how fun it is.
