The first installment of the Harper Hall of Pern Trilogy, Dragonsong introduces to us Menolly. At 15 years-old Menolly is a music prodigy, who prohibited by her father to play music or even sing, runs away of her Hold and finds the legendary fires lizards, and along with them a life she never even dreamed of.
Even though these books are set in another planet in the distant future one has to struggle not sympathyze with the characters. This book will leave you hungry for the other installments in the trilogy, and the other Dragonriders of Pern books.
Both sci-fi and fantasy lovers will love this book.

This book has been one of my favs for years, mainly because I can so relate to Menolly's problems with her parents, and I am a musician. I only wish I could Impress fire lizards like Menolly did!
Good Points
The plot, setting, and characterization are imaginative and feel so real it makes me want to visit Pern. Menolly is such a sympathetic main character you want to keep reading to find out what happens to her. And the final chapter makes you turn the pages even faster because you want so much for her to succeed!

I thought this book was great! It talked about a girls struggle to find her place in her home, a position she wanted to fill. I love the firelizards. The way this story is written makes it seem like Pern is real, and dragons and firelizards are real along with it. It is a spectacular book.

I liked the plot, but when it came to the story I thought it was boring. The end wasn't all that climatic in my opinion, too much description & excess events such as, I was getting tired of hearing what she thought of Elgion. In my opinion I thought it was way longer with less exciting events. All aside I do thought it tought a good life lesson, to do what you love no matter what the barrier.
