Written like a graphic novel, Down in the Dumps: Trash vs. Trucks is a short & fun read for readers that are ready for chapter books. The font makes it easy for young readers to distinguish between words.
I'm not a fan of the greyscale illustrations, as it makes the pages dull.
I have mixed feelings about the plot. On the one hand, I feel like its encouraging children to be disobedient when faced with something new, such as moving... I may be reading more into it that a child would be though. On the other hand, I love how the author threw in the importance of NOT littering.
I love the achievement acknowledgement after select chapters, or word count. My child really enjoyed being able to see how much he was reading - this is great for reading challenges/read-a-thons.
