DONKEY'S AWESOME, EXTRA FUN, VERY GOOD DAY is a cute picture book about emotions and optimism. Donkey Hodie wakes up in the morning and is determined to have the best day. However, it seems like everything just keeps going wrong. With Panda there to help, they'll figure out a way to help her feel less grumpy and get back on track.

What I loved: This was a really cute book about friendship and dealing with tough days. Donkey is really having a tough day, from the way she accidentally hurts her foot by dropping the alarm clock on it to accidentally knocking over the box of cereal. As Panda tries to help her cheer up, they talk about her emotions and help to define them as well as to explore why she still feels grumpy. Eventually they realize that a great way to help her feel better is to think of happier things - and luckily she has a happy memory box to explore.

This is a simple way to begin talking about emotions and some strategies to help little ones deal with a day that does not seem to be going their way. The book features still images from the show that bring the story and characters to life, capturing an episode in full. The backgrounds also include bright colors that will appeal to young readers.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, some of the text is black printed on darker colors, which makes it really tough to read at bedtime or in low light. Additionally, the book is quite lengthy on some pages, which makes it a bit of a longer haul for little ones. Because of the length on many pages, this may work better for preschoolers or kindergartners, who can appreciate a more complex story.

Final verdict: DONKEY'S AWESOME, EXTRA FUN, VERY GOOD DAY is a sweet picture book about tough emotions and friendship that will work well for fans of the show.
