‘Do Baby Elephants Suck Their Trunks?’ by Ben Lerwill, illustrated by Katharine McEwen, is a great book that will engage any curious reader. With stories of amazing ways that animals are just like humans, the book details how babies are everywhere, and they come in all shapes and sizes, as well as have a variety of abilities. From sharing how elephants suck their thumbs to how baby orangutans, or infants, are sometimes carried till they are five years old, there is so much to learn. Polar bears, giraffes, cats, rabbits, whales, lions, dogs, and koalas are also featured, showcasing a wide variety of questions and answers about how to stay warm, when different animals walk, how to stay clean, and how much sleep is necessary.

The end of the story mentions a moral that will always be relevant—how the things that make us the same are as special as the things that make us different. There is so much about the world and the people and animals in it that seems strange, but there are more similarities than meet the eye.

This artfully illustrated question and answer book will thrust any eager, curious reader into wanting to learn more about animals and people by asking their own questions and following up on the answers.
