This story alternates between three different point of views and the first is Csilla. Csilla is the captain of her ship full of sisters and the story opens up with her on trial for piracy. After she's saved, we meet Flynn, who is a childhood friend along with Kane. Kane is the second point of view and is also the captain of his ship. When they receive news about the King being dead, all three are met with shock because they will have to compete to see who will become the next Pirate King. Csilla is excited for the chance to become the first Pirate Queen, even though she feels as if her sister would fit the role better.

The third point of view is Lorelei who wants to do more with her life. So, when her mom is killed, she decides to board a pirate ship called The Iron Jewell. As the reader, we know this is Kane's ship so in a whirlwind adventure, our three main characters collide. While the trials are in full affect, there's still the possibility of the true living heir coming to claim the throne. It leads everyone to wonder who will be the next leader of the pirates?

CROSSBONES is told in three alternating point of views and is a dramatic pirate story in a sense that it reminds me of the chaos of Pirates of the Caribbean. It isn't your traditional pirate story and while I like that, I also wish there was more piracy. The characters don't always act like pirates to me and almost seem like it's because they're too young. That being said, I love the character development and how strong they all are, especially the girls. Csilla is faced with a very difficult decision at the end and I'm curious to see how that affects her in book two. Lorelei grows stronger after her mom's death instead of letting it break her.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of dramatic stories full of friendships, betrayal, a twinge of romance, a dash of piracy, and a whole lot of action. I'm intrigued about how the rest of the story will unfold and if it'll be just as unique as the first.
