Creative and deep into a great culture
I love and collect books with themes of witches or magic schools from all cultures and was very please to find this one.
If you loved Root Magic you'll love this one. An amazing contemporary tale of family and magic realism. Young Del finds her way to a magic school on an island in South Carolina. Filled with the folklore of the Gullah Geechee culture.
"Protect. Educate. Survive." This is the school's motto. And magic helps build and connect communities.
Limited cast. Has 8 students, a few teachers(Sorcells), 1 talking alligator but the story focuses on Del alone, sometimes her great-grandma and Eva are part of it too.
Del will investigate Gramma's past. Understanding inheritance and unveiling secrets.
I just wanted a little bit more about the teachers and other students.
