Charlie’s Great Big Backpack is a quirky tale about a small boy who is ready for anything during a school camping trip. Charlie is not afraid of anything and is very happy to be paired with the kid all the other kids fear, Louis. Charlie has all the necessities and just in case things he could ever need in his big backpack. Poor Louis ends up as the comedic foil against Charlie’s enthusiastic and often misguided attempts to help. Charlie’s antics are perfect for fans of Peggy Parish’s Amelia Bedelia series or the Three Stooges. The illustrations are simplistic and highlight the hilarity of Charlie’s solutions. Overall, this was an enjoyable addition to the Charlie series sure to delight readers.
