2020 was a whirlwind for a lot of us, and we don't know about you, but books have been our saving grace--and continue to be our saving grace. Today, we're listing our staff favorites of 2020 and why we dug them! Let us know in the comments some of your favorites from 2020--and let us know why!

YABC Staffer, Samantha Randolph's 2020 Favorite:

Sal and Gabi Fix the Universe by Carlos Hernandez
Why: I’m a huge fan of the entire Rick Riordan Presents line, but Sal and Gabi are my favorite. This sequel to Sal and Gabi Break the Universe comes with laughter, comfort, wormholes, and a whole multiverse of antics.

YABC Staffer, Michelle Lynn's 2020 Favorite:

Why: There's something so completely unique about a princess falling in love with a court fool. It shouldn't work, but it really, really does. This book has a forbidden aspect, along with secrets and lies. It's done so well that it's impossible to stop reading.
YABC Staffer, Angela Blount's 2020 Favorite:

Why: My favorite book from last year's haul was Starsight (Skyward, #2), by Brandon Sanderson. Though it is the second book in the Skyward series, it doesn't even slightly suffer from the second book syndrome. Solid, well-paced sci-fi with LOTS of worldbuilding expansion that opens up so many possibilities for where he might be taking Spensa's story... đź¤—
YABC Staffer, Caitlin Haines's 2020 Favorite:

Why: I've always been a sucker for retellings, and this Mulan-inspired story became an instant favorite. It takes the story we know and tells it in an all-new way, bringing in amazing characters and building up a beautiful world.
YABC Staff, Elisha Jachetti's 2020 Favorite:

Why: This book was actually released in 2019, which is when I initially read it. However, I found myself re-reading it multiple times in 2020-- which is so rare for me! This book brought me so much comfort this past year and it really checks all the boxes. It has romance, thrill, and is historical fiction. If you like Bridgerton, you'll LOVE The Season. It has a similar plot, but is so much better!

YABC Staffer, Kim Baccellia's 2020 Favorite:

Why: Beautiful, lyrical fantasy tale told from the POV of Wolfgang Mozart's sister. Hints of Holly Black here.
YABC Staffer, Stephanie Augustine's 2020 Favorite:

Why: This book beyond surprised me. It kept me enthralled from the very beginning. The pacing and the story were fantastic, but the characters stole the show.
YABC Staffer Bethany Wicker's Favorite of 2020:

Why: I loved From Blood and Ash because it is both riveting and unique. The main guy is so perfect and I love his devotion. The female character is also a strong female lead that you hope breaks away from those who suppress her.
I'm dying for The Crown of Gilded Bones because it's the third in the From Blood and Ash series. The second one ended in a huge cliffhanger and I'm craving me some more Casteel!

YABC Staffer, Beth Rodgers' 2020 Favorite:

Why: It made me feel like I was in the midst of summer, relishing time with friends, and enjoying the beach. It didn't hurt that it made mention of The Beach Boys, who are my favorite band.

YABC Staffer, Jazmen Greene's 2020 Favorite:

Why: Not only is this book funny, it's charming and utterly romantic. Between the heroine's growth, the endearing family dynamic—and the top tier banter between Alex and Mary, I have to say this is probably one of my favorite YA novels. It was as adorable as it was heartwarming. 'By the Book' was an all-around enjoyable literary experience. I'm eager to see what else this author cooks up!

Runaway by Melissa A. Craven
Why: The Emerge series has had me hooked for YEARS, and this year we're finally getting to the last two installments. I feel like I've been waiting so long, yet the story is still fresh in my mind. I can't wait to see how it ends.
