Meet Cody Putman Oakes!

Cory Putman Oakes

Sometime around sixth grade, Cory Putman Oakes had to face the sad truth that being a heroine in a Madeleine L'Engle book was not a valid career choice. Since then, she graduated from UCLA and Cornell Law School, worked as an associate at a big law firm, and taught at Texas State University. She finally decided that writing books was the best alternative to living in them. She lives in Austin, Texas with her family.

Meet Witchtown!

Enter the gates of Witchtown to find a darkly humorous and mischievous coming-of-age story for fans of Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic and the Danielle Paige’s Dorothy Must Die series.

When sixteen-year-old Macie O’Sullivan and her masterfully manipulative mother Aubra arrive at the gates of Witchtown—the most famous and mysterious witch-only haven in the world—they have one goal in mind: to rob it for all it’s worth.

But that plan derails when Macie and Aubra start to dig deeper into Witchtown’s history and uncover that there is more to the quirky haven than meets the eye.
Exploring the haven by herself, Macie finds that secrets are worth more than money in Witchtown.
     Secrets have their own power.

PARANORMAL READS TO GET YOU IN THE WITCHTOWN MOOD:

Confession: I love paranormal fiction! It has the perfect blend of everything that makes a good story to me: high stakes, the fight between good and evil (and often good people being tempted towards the latter), love that crosses magical boundaries, and magic, of course. Here are some of my favorite paranormal reads—if you like any of these, guaranteed you’ll love WITCHTOWN, too!

PRACTICAL MAGIC (Alice Hoffman) (Oh I just love this book – and the movie too!)

THE WITCHES (Roald Dahl) (One of my favorite books growing up)

ROSEBLOOD (A.G. Howard)

ANNA DRESED IN BLOOD (Kendare Blake) (My go-to scary book. All the shivers)

CARAVAL Stephanie Garber

THE BONE WITCH (Rin Chupeco)

STAR DUST (Neil Gaiman)

WICKED (Gregory MacGuire)

LABYRINTH LOST (Zoraida Cordova) (I just love those Brujas!!)

PROMISE OF SHADOWS (Justina Ireland)

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES (Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl)

I love the purple cover and how the title is smoke--makes it spooky and matches the synopsis well. I love books with secrets and this one promises many.
