YABC Thankful post

2020 has been full of ups and downs, mostly downs. It's hard to escape the realities of what is facing us today: a worldwide pandemic, 1.4 million deaths globally, countries on lockdown. As the States prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving today, it becomes even harder to recognize what we are thankful for. Like many of you, I've escaped into fantasy through television and books. Recently I watched Netflix's Dash & Lily (highly recommend it by the way). In one episode, Lily tells Dash she chooses to look for the rainbows in the storms. I encourage each of you reading this to do just that. Many of us on staff have found an escape in reading this year. Today I want to share the rainbows we found. Here are the books and authors we're thankful for in 2020.

Book Cover for Kingdom of Yesterdays

Kingdom of Yesterday's Lies by Hayley Osborn

What Melissa has to say about the book:

"I am thankful for Hayley Osborn's Royals of Faery series. I had the pleasure of editing books 1 & 2 this year, so I am a bit biased, but these books are incredible! I'm dying to get my hands on book 3! I have struggled to get into most books I've read this year. Nothing has held my attention. Normally when I edit a book, I'm in editor mode and highly critical. But with Hayley's series, I had to read it first and then edit it because it was just that good!"

The Faithless Hawk by Margaret Owen

*Kim's Pick*

(Staff Reviewer)

Book Cover for Sanctuary

Sanctuary by Paola Mendoza & Abby Sher

What Kim has to say about the book:

"I'm thankful for those authors who write books that mirror different cultures and aren't afraid to address sensitive/important issues happening right now. One book that was powerful had to be SANCTUARY by Paola Mendoza."

*Lillian's Pick*

(Indie Co-Manager)

Book Cover for The Elements of the Crown

The Elements of the Crown by Kay L. Moody

What Lillian has to say about the book:

"This year I'm thankful for The Elements of Kamdaria series by Kay L. Moody, comprised of 12 novellas, each coming out within a few weeks of each other throughout the course of the year. I fell head over heels in love with the main character, the storyline which is reminscent of Anastasia, and the elemental magic. The length of the novellas was perfect for my otherwise preoccupied mind, and it gave me someone to cheer for throughout the entire year."
