Learn about iSing Silicon Valley!
Founded in 2013 by Artistic Directors Jennah Delp-Somers and Shane Troll, iSing Silicon Valley brings together more than 300 young female singers in the Silicon Valley, offering them rigorous musical and vocal training while fostering artistry, community, and leadership.
In addition to presenting their own concerts to enthusiastic, sold-out houses in the region and appearing as guest artists on the Stanford Live series and at Festival Napa Valley, iSing has also now begun to achieve national and international recognition. Recent awards include the Grand Prize in the 8th International Robert Schumann Choral Competition (2018) and the Chorus America’s Dale Warland Singers Commission Award (2018), funded by the American Composers Forum. iSing has enjoyed collaborations with musical pioneer Meredith Monk and Vocal Ensemble, and the world-renowned vocal ensembles, Voces8 and Cappella SF.
iSing singers become friends for life, bonded by artistic experiences that challenge and shape their view of the world. Through singing and growing in iSing’s supportive community, they discover their vulnerability, uniqueness, and purpose. Their shared vision for a bright future in which the voices of these young women will be heard and valued, manifests itself in every rehearsal, every performance, and on iSing’s debut Here I Stand.

Spotlight on the all-girl choir iSing Silicon Valley
“Through iSing commissioned works, I’ve had the opportunity to explore socially relevant themes through music. The process of studying and performing these pieces has influenced the ways in which I view the world around me.” — Mia (iSing singer, 12th grade)
“Through our voices, and by singing very powerful pieces that encourage change, we make statements about issues that matter.” — Tori (iSing singer, 9th grade)
It's part of iSing’s mission to champion girls as artists and as change-makers by offering them extraordinary musical experiences—including opportunities to perform and record music commissioned by iSing and written exclusively for the ensemble. During our first seven seasons, our singers have premiered 10 brand new iSing-commissioned works.
We’re especially proud of “Never Shall I Forget,” our award-winning commission from composer Adam Schoenberg. The piece is based on excerpts from Night, the haunting Holocaust memoir by author, peace and social justice advocate, and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Elie Wiesel.
Like other Holocaust survivors, Wiesel believed that only by remembering, only by telling the stories, and only by speaking out, and—when possible—taking action when we see the mistreatment of one person by another, can we create a better future for ourselves, our children, and future generations.
In 2020, 75 years after the defeat of the Nazis and the liberation from the concentration camps in 1945, few Holocaust survivors are here to tell us about their experiences. Many of us, including our singers, have never met a man or woman who survived the Holocaust.
Designing this commission based on Wiesel’s memoir offered iSing singers a way of remembering and understanding something that they have not experienced themselves, a way to connect the past with the present, and a way to make their voices heard.
“Never Shall I Forget” is featured on iSing’s newly released album, Here I Stand, which includes iSing-commissioned works and other challenging music for treble voices, as performed by more than 200 iSing girls.
