Meet Fractured Tide!
Lost meets Stranger Things in this eerie, immersive YA thriller, thrusting seventeen-year-old Sia into a reality where the waters in front of her and the jungle behind her are as dangerous as the survivors alongside her.
Sia practically grew up in the water scuba diving, and wreck dives are run of the mill. Take the tourists out. Explore the reef. Uncover the secrets locked in the sunken craft. But this time … the dive goes terribly wrong.
Attacked by a mysterious creature, Sia’s boat is sunk, her customers are killed, and she washes up on a deserted island with no sign of rescue in sight. Waiting in the water is a seemingly unstoppable monster that is still hungry. In the jungle just off the beach are dangers best left untested. When Sia reunites with a handful of survivors, she sees it as the first sign of light.
Sia is wrong.
Between the gulf of deadly seawater in front of her and suffocating depth of the jungle behind her, even the island isn’t what it seems.
Haunted by her own mistakes and an inescapable dread, Sia’s best hope for finding answers may rest in the center of the island, at the bottom of a flooded sinkhole that only she has the skills to navigate. But even if the creature lurking in the depths doesn’t swallow her and the other survivors, the secrets of their fractured reality on the island might.
- Is and eerie and immersive YA thriller told through journal entries from a daughter to her father
- Unfolds through the eyes of a narrator who keeps you guessing until the final pages
- Is a gripping mix of suspense and horror; perfect for readers ages 13 and up
~ Guest Post ~
When I first started writing FRACTURED TIDE, I knew I would be writing about fear. After all, it is a thriller (psst...really it’s horror, but we just call it thriller), and thrillers are all about evoking that “fate worse than death” vibe. But what I didn’t know is that the main character, Sia, would have a very complicated relationship with fear. As a matter of fact, she kinda likes it. It makes her feel awake. It makes her feel alive. It makes her feel present.
For my guest post during these strange and frightening times, when it feels like we’ve hit the pause button on the world, I thought I’d talk a little about how people who love to read horror and thriller stories (ahem, that would be me) are drawn to them, no matter what.
So...you might like FRACTURED TIDE if...
...Jaws is one of your favorite movies. After all, you really want Sheriff Brodie and the other dudes to survive, but a little part of you wants the shark to win.
...STRANGER THINGS is your jam. When you first watched it, you thought, I need more weird things in my life. Yeah. Bring it on. Bring on the weird.
...the noises on your roof make you more curious than frightened. They’re really squirrels, not the creature from A QUIET PLACE. Just squirrels. Keep telling yourself that.
...you have at least once fantasized about being marooned on a deserted island. And it’s not just because of the hottie who’d be shipwrecked alongside you. No, you’re jonesing to try out your wicked survival skills.
...you really perked up during FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING when Frodo’s band of adventurers encounter the many-tentacled monster guarding the entrance to the Mines of Moria. I mean, it’s good in the book, but on the screen? Whoa.
...when you dress up for Halloween, you go for fear factor, not princess power. Unless you’re a princess zombie. Or a shark zombie princess. Which isn’t a bad idea for Halloween 2020, so...you’re welcome.
And finally, you might like FRACTURED TIDE if...
...you thought 47 Meters Down was a pleasant beach vacay.
But seriously, no matter what you enjoy for your summer reading, I hope you find the book that makes you feel awake and alive and present, whether it’s a rom-com or a fright fest. Because the world might “closed until further notice,” but our minds aren’t. Stay well, good luck, and happy reading.
