NEW YORK, NY (March 7, 2019) – Random House Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books (U.S.), announced today their 2019 Stranger Things publishing program, which will include the first-ever Stranger Things young adult novel, STRANGER THINGS: RUNAWAY MAX (On Sale June 4, 2019), by New York Times bestselling author Brenna Yovanoff, and two collectable titles featuring in-world photographs and writings: HAWKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARBOOK/HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK (On Sale March 26, 2019) and WILL BYERS’S SECRET FILES (On Sale September 24, 2019). Stranger Things is a Netflix original series and the #1 streamed show to date. The show is a worldwide cultural phenomenon that attracted over 15.8 million viewers for its season-two premiere in its first three days on Netflix alone. The sci-fi series combines 1980s nostalgia and captivating character-driven stories in a compelling package that appeals to multiple ages.

“Random House Children’s books is thrilled to collaborate with Netflix on a series of books based on their totally tubular series, Stranger Things,” said Mallory Loehr, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Random House Books for Young Readers. “Young readers can travel back to 1985 with three books that are cooler than Steve Harrington’s hair.”

Releasing just in time for the July 4, 2019, premiere of Stranger Things season Three, STRANGER THINGS: RUNAWAY MAX by New York Times bestselling author Brenna Yovanoff is a gripping, emotional prequel that shares the untold backstory of the beloved Dig Dug maven Max Mayfield. This is the first young adult companion to the Netflix series and a must-read for fans of all ages. In it, Yovanoff explores Max’s past—the good and the bad—as well as how she came to find a sense of home in Hawkins, Indiana.
