New York, NY (June 28, 2017)—HarperCollins Publishers announced today the acquisition of Grammy Award winner Kelly Clarkson’s second picture book in the River Rose series, RIVER ROSE AND THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS, featuring an original Christmas song written and performed by the international superstar. This book marks the follow-up to Clarkson’s New York Times bestselling debut last year, RIVER ROSE AND THE MAGICAL LULLABY. World rights were sold to David Linker, Executive Editor, HarperCollins Children’s Books, from CAA.
It’s Christmas Eve, and River Rose wants to stay up all night to hand-deliver a letter to Santa. She can’t wait to finally meet the man in red until…oh, no! River Rose and her dog Joplin have fallen asleep and have been swept off on another magical adventure. This time, they’re off to the North Pole to let Santa know what River Rose really wants for Christmas.
With adorable illustrations by Lucy Fleming, RIVER ROSE AND THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS is the perfect story for this holiday season.
“I am so excited to be able to bring the magic of the River Rose series back in time for the holidays.,” says Kelly Clarkson. “My family and I find this to be the most magical time of year and I wanted to share that with everyone.”
"It's been an absolutely magical experience working with Kelly on the follow-up to her New York Times bestselling picture book," says David Linker. "The energy and heart she put in to every word is evident on every page. This new book will delight her fans, young and old, and feels destined to become a new Christmas classic."
Grammy Award winner Kelly Clarkson has released six studio albums (Thankful, Breakaway, My December, All I Ever Wanted, Stronger, Piece by Piece), one greatest hits album, and one holiday album, has sold over twenty-one million albums worldwide, and has had ten singles in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. She is the recipient of three Grammy Awards, four American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, and one CMA Award. Clarkson’s sixth studio album, Piece by Piece, debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, marking her third number-one debut on the chart. Piece by Piece garnered two 2016 Grammy nominations (Pop Vocal Album and Pop Solo Performance for her hit single “Heartbeat Song”).
Clarkson’s 2011 effort, Stronger, was certified platinum, won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album, and produced the smash singles “Mr. Know It All” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” which mark Kelly’s ninth and tenth top ten hits. “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” was number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for two consecutive weeks (three weeks total) marking her third number one on the Hot 100 chart. In 2013, she released her very first Christmas album, Wrapped in Red, which debuted at number three and was the biggest holiday album debut for a female artist since 2010 and is certified platinum.
Clarkson is currently in the studio working on her highly anticipated new album, her first for Atlantic Records, which will be released later this year. The album will draw from the inspiration of soul and R&B as the foundation to her endearing lyrics and powerhouse vocals.
