Meet Angela
Award-winning author Angela N. Blount is a Minnesota native, transplanted to the deep South—where she currently resides with her understanding husband, their two children, and a small menagerie of rescue pets. A Registered Nurse by trade, she is also a staff book reviewer for Young Adult Books Central, an underwriter for LitPick, a memoirist, sporadic poet, and webcomic artist. In her spare time Angela enjoys reading, coffee shop loitering, questionable attempts at horticulture, and all things geeky.
Meet Young St Nick
Available in the YABC Holiday Anthology: Mistletoe & Magic
On the outskirts of a frontier Martian colony where genetically imperfect children are regularly abandoned, a group of misfit orphans have formed a unique family—going beyond survival and preserving traditions from a world they’ve never known. When a dear friend is pressed into servitude to pay off her mother’s debts, they’ll have to make use of their reformed thieving skills if they have any hope of saving her. But even if they succeed… they may not be able to save her from her own sense of loyalty.

YABC: What was your inspiration for this story?
Angela: From the beginning, I wanted to spotlight a few side characters from my upcoming sci-fi series. I've always loved the origin story behind Saint Nicholas, and decided to pay homage to one of his legendary feats with a sci-fi adaptation. I hope I've done it justice. And I hope some of my readers might be inspired to learn about the Greek historical figure known as Nicholas the Wonderworker.
YABC: Tell us about your other works or projects? Where can we find your books?
Angela: I am currently working on both a YA contemporary and sci-fi series. I have a memoir duology--Once Upon a Road Trip and Once Upon an Ever After--currently available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
YABC: When it's book haul time at YABC, how do you decide which books to request?
Angela: When the YABC book haul video drops, I set aside several hours to go through it. I'm fairly meticulous in my selection process--particularly when it comes to Middle Grade and YA. (There just aren't enough hours in the day for all the reading I'd like to do!) As I'm watching the haul video, I pause at every transition and look up nearly every book on Amazon so I can read the blurb. If the blurb interests me, I then check out the Author's other book listings and their average ratings to help me decide if I should take a chance. I keep a notepad next to my keyboard and compile a list of the 10-15 most promising options before ranking them and sending in my requests.
