Meet Melissa

Melissa A. Craven writes Young Adult Urban Fantasy with crossover appeal to other genres and audiences of all ages. She believes in stories that make you think and she loves playing with foreshadowing, leaving clues and hints for the careful reader. She draws inspiration from her background in architecture and interior design to help her with the small details in world building and scene settings. She still works (extremely) part time for a design firm in Atlanta Georgia. (Mostly just to make sure she actually leaves the house from time to time.) Melissa is also the indie manager and a staff reviewer at YABooksCentral.com. You can follow her reviews and her contributions to the YABC blog at her YABC profile

Melissa LOVES to hear from her readers. You can connect with her at her website MelissaACraven.com to find out more about upcoming Emerge releases, enter giveaways and download your free copy of Emerge: The Scholar.

Meet The K Word: Peyton

Available in the YABC Holiday Anthology: Mistletoe & Magic

“I’m happy with who I am and I like the way I look. It’s just … it’s like you’re born and then the world slaps a label on your forehead and no matter what you do that label is all anyone ever sees.”

A kiss … the kiss from her best friend, Cameron is all Peyton Callahan wants for Christmas, but she fears one ugly three-letter word might come between them.

He’s an athlete and an Olympic hopeful.

She’s the curvy girl who puts on a few pounds if she stares at a plate of cookies too long.

Peyton tries to be body positive, even when the rest of the world wants to label her the “fat girl.”

But does Cameron see her that way?

A Christmas Eve party just might be the night Peyton and Cameron find themselves under the mistletoe and out of excuses.

YABC: What was your inspiration for this story?

Melissa: Peyton's character is inspired by my own experiences as a teen struggling with her weight, trying to have a body positive outlook when everyone and everything around her tells her she just isn't good enough. The K Word is also a prequel to a new series I am co-authoring with the talented, Michelle MacQueen.

YABC: Tell us about your other works or projects? Where can we find your books?

Melissa: My debut series, Emerge: Immortals of Indriell has been well received; even earning a few awards and accolades along the way. Emerge: The Betrayal, book 5 will be releasing this winter. All of the Emerge books are available for free to Kindle Unlimited subscribers.

I am also working on a new Contemporary Fiction three book series, Redefining Me, which tackles some tough subjects. This series will launch in Spring of 2019.

I'm also very excited for my upcoming new Fantasy series I will be anouncing soon. This nine book series will lauch in the fall of 2019.

Recommended Reading Order for the Immortals of Indriell series.

Emerge: The Awakening (Book 1)

Emerge: The Edge (Book 1.5)

Emerge: The Scholar (An Illustrated Character Journal)

Emerge: The Volunteer (An Emerge Short Story)

Emerge: The Judgment (Book 2)

Emerge: The Catalyst (Short Story)

Emerge: The Captive (Book 3)

Emerge: The Assignment (An Emerge novella)

Emerge: The Heir (Book 4 )

Emerge: The Betrayal (Book 5 coming soon)

YABC: When it's book haul time at YABC, how do you decide which books to request?

Melissa: I admit it, I'm a total book cover snob (and I know better). I've been known to grab books from the bookhaul based on the cover alone. Sometimes I don't even read the story description before I dive in. I love the surprise of it. Lately, I've been a little more selective. I take screen shots of the books that interest me and then I go research them on Amazon. I try to only choose the books that really grab me because my TBR is ridiculous these days. I keep telling myself I'm going to skip the next book haul so I can catch up, but they're SO pretty! I just can't say no to books. It's not in my DNA.
