Meet Hearts & Homes
Available in the YABC Holiday Anthology: Mistletoe & Magic
After a difficult break-up, Cassie Shearer travels to sunny Florida for the Hearts & Homes volunteer house-building program. But the getaway doesn't turn out quite the way she hoped, as she finds herself partnered with the flirtatious, yet aggravating Cole Samuels.
Join Cassie as she learns that home is where the heart is through experiences with holiday fun, new friends, and rewarding work. The best part, however, might just be the blossoming of an exciting, yet uncertain start to a relationship.
YABC: What was your inspiration for this story?
Beth: I have always enjoyed writing Cassie's character, who got her start in my first novel, Freshman Fourteen. I thought it would be fun to showcase her life, separate from main character Margot, to further develop her character and allow readers the opportunity to learn about her separate from Margot's main storyline in Freshman Fourteen and Sweet Fifteen.
YABC: Tell us about your other works or projects? Where can we find your books?
Beth: I write contemporary realistic fiction and have two novels out at the moment - Freshman Fourteen and Sweet Fifteen. These two books follow main character Margot Maples and her friends throughout their first two years of high school. I have begun working on the third story in Margot's series, and I also have a children's picture book in the works right now with an illustrator friend of mine. I love spending time reviewing books both for YABC and for my website, BethRodgersAuthor.com. Contemporary realistic fiction is my favorite to read, but I have also dabbled in reading fantasy, mystery, and dystopian stories.
YABC: When it's book haul time at YABC, how do you decide which books to request?
Beth: For me, it's a combination of the titles, the cover art, and the book descriptions that I spend time researching. I don't like to judge a book entirely by its cover, so the research part is very important to me. I also tend to lean toward authors I've read before or have heard good things about, because as a reviewer myself, I like to think that people's opinions count when making decisions on what I would like to read.
