Meet Our New Tween Reviewer, Zach!

Meet Our New Tween Reviewer, Zach!

At YABC, we're all about giving kids a voice. We believe getting kids talking about books is one of the most valuable things in the world. Being able to articulate how we feel about art, experiences, nature, literature — anything really! — is a master key that opens up a child's future, especially when it comes to education. That's why it's so important to us that kids have a place to talk about books. Their insight is invaluable, and it shouldn't go unnoticed.

That's also why we appoint a handful of kids each year to be our Official Tween and Teen Reviewers.

I'm proud to introduce you to our newest Tween Reviewer, Zach. Zach is in middle school, and he loves to write books and play computer games. His favorite kinds of books are horror and fantasy, but he also likes comedies.

Zach is wicked smart, hilarious, and he definitely has the mind of an artist. We're so happy to have him on our Team!

Here are two of Zach's most recent reviews:

Spies vs. Giant Slugs in the Jungle
What if some tiny slugs fell into a pool of toxic goo and became Giant Slugs? Would they take over the world? Or would the Spies vanquish them with their secret weapon?

Zach's Thoughts

Good points:
I thought it was really good because you got to choose what the characters were like. You got to draw what they looked like, and then choose what they sounded like and even some of the things they did. You even got to choose some of the things they said. The plot was really fun because you never knew what would happen next. It was so good, it made me want to sit down and write a book.

Bad Points: Nothing.

Final Thoughts:
I thought it was an amazing book. So far, it's the best book I've ever read because it's everything I like in a book.

Ninjago: A Ninja's Path
Quiet Zane isn't like the other ninja. His weird humor sometimes gets him in trouble with Cole, Kay, and Kai--especially when he leads the ninja into a mission that ends in the destruction of their home in Sensei Wu's monastery. Now Zane must hope that a new path will rise from the monastery's ashes....

Zach's Thoughts

What I Loved:
I loved the illustrations because they gave it the whole Lego style which matches the rest of the Lego series. The plot is very mysterious because you don't know what happens when Zane goes away. I also liked that they added some humor in the story. And I really liked the action scenes.

What I Didn't Like:
I didn't like that the story was so short and that it kept changing from one point of view to another.

Final Thoughts:
It's a good book, and I'd recommend it to people who like fighting, Legos, and adventure.
