What I loved: This is a book made to grab baby’s attention with bright colors and lots of cute and happy babies illustrated throughout. These images are sure to grab infants’ attention. Each of the 5 page spreads includes a line from the song (not the whole song) and shows the babies on the page acting out the action, such as clapping hands. The best thing about this book is the indestructible construction. It’s a nontoxic, lightweight, and sturdy book that can be crumpled, chewed on, and pulled around without worrying about doing any damage. This is another book that is made for infants to enjoy independently or with an adult.
What left me wanting more: While I do appreciate the limited text on each page for baby’s attention spans, the book does not have one full refrain, so it cannot really be sung when reading through. I think I would have liked it better if each page had a full refrain or if the pages added up to the refrain. The book has three lines before the switch, whereas the song has two (eg, it repeats ‘if you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands’ twice vs three times). It’s a minor thing, but it would be so much more fun if we could sing with the book.
Final verdict: A sturdy and chewable read, INDESTRUCTIBLES: HAPPY AND YOU KNOW IT! is another brightly colored and fun installment in this series made perfectly for infants.
