THE WEIGHT OF ZERO
Seventeen-year-old Cath knows Zero is coming for her. Zero, the devastating depression born of Catherine’s bipolar disease, has almost triumphed once, propelling Cath to her first suicide attempt. With Zero only temporarily restrained by the latest med du jour, time is running out. In an old ballet shoebox, Cath stockpiles meds, preparing to take her own life when Zero arrives.
But Zero’s return is delayed. New relationships along with the care of a new psychiatrist start to alter Catherine’s perception of her diagnosis. But will this be enough? This is a story of loss and grief and hope and how the many shapes of love – maternal, romantic and platonic – impact a young woman’s struggle with mental illness.

I’m actually so excited to read this book! The cover is awesome, but the synopsis has me really intrigued. It sounds like a really unique portrayal of mental health issues. I’ve always been really interested in different takes on mental health struggles since they’re so personal and often hard to grasp. Really intrigued to read this and maybe get a chance to pick the authors brain for an interview!
Love the look of this cover, and excited to read it. One of my most-anticipated reads of 2016. I’m always looking for more accurate and honest representation of mental illness in YA.
This looks amazing and unique. I feel like I would really enjoy it. The cover would look amazing on my shelf as well!!
The cover is very interesting and unique and I love the way the circles are all around her. I think books about mental health issues are always interesting, but this one especially intrigued me and got my attention and I’m really looking forward to it!
Oh, and by the way, I LOVE talking to authors. It gives so much more context to the book!

The cover was the main reason I felt interested then I read the synopsis and my interest just hit the roof…
The cover makes this book look very interesting. It stood out from the others and the synopsis makes me want to read the book even more!
I really admire the courageous approach some YA writers have taken to mental illness — whether accurate or otherwise, protagonists with such difficulties cannot help but destigmatize people who have challenges adjusting to life’s changing circumstances (either because of an illness or a lifestyle diffiulty, or both). My husband is a child psychiatrist and was an excellent resource for the story. I think the cover is fantastic! I love the font used, and the subtitle caught my attention, “Hope survives where you least expect it.”! I like how the girl is standing in the center, and the fact that someone circled her multiple times is intriguing. The fact that her hair covers one of her eyes is neat when it comes to this, and I love how the circles are all over the place, yet they don’t make the cover jam-packed with unneeded designs. Now, the synopsis is very, very, very [b]amazing[/b]. I mean, I [b]love[/b] it! It’s so attracting! I love how it’s hard to keep up with everything, haha, sounds funny, doesn’t it? What I mean is, there’s so much going on, and my brain is dying to read on! I like how it all comes together, like a loop, perfectly! Cath seems like an amazing character, and I hope that there’s a mystery behind her and Zero, one that I’m hanging to find out. Last but not least, Karen sounds like an amazing writer, and I would love the honor to read her first book, [i]and[/i] have a conversation with her! That I am dying for.
This book sounds absolutely amazing. I am always a fan of a well done book about mental health issues, which this sounds like it definitely is. I read Karen’s bio, and it is very clear that she worked hard on this, and it is close to her heart, so I cannot wait to read it! And I think the cover definitely captures the topic very well.
interesting cover
After reading the synopsis, I really want to read this book. Even though it’s billed as “YA”… I often find myself really loving the book.. I read them first before passing them among my actual young adult readers here. Then we can talk about the story! I do love the cover!!
I love the cover and the synopsis. I have dealt with mental health issues so this is very personal for me. It is a harder life when you are a young adult and feel misunderstood and don’t even understand yourself.

I have added it to my TBR list and when I do read it I will be sure to review it on my blog as well as Goodreads and Amazon.
I think books like this one are very important. We need more books that highlight the struggles of people with mental illness and I commend this author for taking on such an important topic.
The cover is quite hipster, but I’m digging it. It’s what made me click over, so that’s a plus in my book and the kind of response you want to have with readers. The synopsis is good; I’m intrigued. I haven’t read a book with mental illness, but this cover seems to show how meds have softened the pain. Sounds like an emotional read!
I love how the girl is shown standing in the middle of what looks like a scribbled white circle. The tagline is really powerful and I love books that bring awareness to the issue of mental illness, as someone very close to me suffered for years before finally finding the right treatment that saved his life. Super excited for this book!
When I read the synopsis feels like, I need this book! I have to read this book soon or I’m going to dying like Catherine but I know, Zero will be coming..
But when I saw the cover from the first time I’m not so interested I don’t know why maybe because I don’t like yellow? And can you make, “Hope survives where you least expect it” bigger? That’s quote is blown my mind!!
