Hi, YABCers!

Today we're excited to celebrate the cover reveal for

The Unready Queen by William Ritter,

releasing June 2nd, 2020 from Algonquin Young Readers!

Before we get to the cover, here's a note from the author:

I am so excited for this book to exist. It was written and illustrated with care and love, but also with genuine joy—perhaps more so than any of my other books to date.

THE UNREADY QUEEN takes place shortly after the events of CHANGELING, following up on brothers Tinn and Cole—but the emotional core of this one lies with their new friend, the energetic and enigmatic heir to the Wild Wood, Fable.

From her very first scene, Fable has done more than leap off of the page. She has tumbled, swung, and bounded from sentence to sentence, and I cannot help but grin while writing her. I LOVE spending time with Fable, and I am so eager for readers to get to know her, too.

This is a book for a rowdy, rising generation. It is a book for kids too stubbornly hopeful to accept the world as it is and just stubbornly hopeful enough to make it a better one. Fable is waiting as patiently as she can to meet you all (I’m sure you’ll be fast friends). In the meantime, I am delighted to share the cover for THE UNREADY QUEEN.

~ Will ~

About the Book

Fable—the bold, outspoken, and adventurous half-human daughter of the Queen of the Deep Dark—takes center stage as she and her friends Tinn and Cole fight to prevent a war that threatens lives as well as peace, as the unspoken truce between humans and the creatures of the Wild Wood begins to crumble in this second book in the Oddmire series.

Human and goblin brothers Cole and Tinn are finding their way back to normal after their journey to the heart of the Oddmire. Normal, unfortunately, wants nothing to do with them. Fable, the daughter of the Queen of the Deep Dark, has her first true friends in the brothers. The Queen allows Fable to visit Tinn and Cole as long as she promises to stay quiet and out of sight—concealing herself and her magic from the townspeople of Endsborough.

But when the trio discovers that humans are destroying the Wild Wood and the lives of its creatures for their own dark purposes, Fable cannot stay quiet. As the unspoken truce between the people of Endsborough and the inhabitants of the Wild Wood crumbles, violence escalates, threatening war and bringing Fable’s mother closer to the fulfillment of a deadly prophecy that could leave Fable a most Unready Queen.
